This charcoal portrait was commissioned in 2018. As a little girl, I made pencil sketches more often than any other medium, so going back to the beginning to do this portrait was very fun for me. Not only is there dark charcoal, but I used white pastel to bring out the highlights in the subject. The pencil reference marks and the natural color of the paper come together to create a raw vibe for the piece.
